Sedation Dentistry

Stay Calm: Sedation Dentistry is an Option

Nervous for the dentist
At Fountain Dental Center, we understand that our patients aren’t counting down the days looking forward to a dental procedure. In fact, we’re aware that many patients totally dread the dentist and have anxiety that’s difficult to manage. That’s why we provide sedation dentistry to help them relax during their appointments.

Reasons to Seek Sedation Options

Getting sedation prior to a dental procedure is a personal choice, but we often see those with the following concerns seek this option:

  • Difficulty getting numb
  • Very sensitive teeth
  • High fear
  • A hatred of the noises, smells and tastes associated with dental care
  • A bad gag reflex
  • A fear of needles and shots
  • Previous traumatic dental experiences
  • Difficulty getting numb

The Sedation Dental Care Standard

Dental sedation has been in practice for more than 30 years and it is becoming more popular lately. More and more, patients are speaking up when their discomfort is too much for them to manage, and those patients are taking advantage of advances in modern medicine that allow them to relax completely during their appointments.

Making the Choice That’s Best for You

Type of Sedation

We offer the following types of sedation:

  • Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas): This type of sedation offers the benefit of allowing you to resume normal activities immediately after the procedure.
  • Oral Sedation (Pill): If you are afraid of needles, this is a great option. All you do is take a pill orally prior to your appointment.
  • Intravenous Sedation (IV): This method will put you to sleep so you will feel no pain during the procedure.

Keep in mind that if you choice IV or oral sedation, you will need someone to drive you home after your appointment.

How Sedation Will Change Your Appointment

Most patients who are sedated don’t recall any details from their appointment. It isn’t uncommon for patients to remember being sedated and then not remember anything until they wake up and the procedure is over.

Fountain Dental Group will take precautions to make sure you stay safe throughout the procedure. We will monitor your vital signs the entire time you are sedated.
